Welcome to my website.
At Present...
At present I tutor children in the central Brighton area in their own homes as well as teaching at St Aubyns School, Rottingdean. I started teaching in 1986 graduating from Warwick University, and in 2005 completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy from the Dyslexia Institute.
What I Offer...
- One-to-one lessons for children who have dyslexia-type difficulties.
- Maths and English tuition for primary school children who may need a boost with their learning and/or confidence.
- KS1/KS2 SATS preparation.
- Preparation for the Common Entrance Examination.
Generally speaking, each hour’s lesson is very structured with perhaps six or seven activities designed to hold the child’s attention and make the lesson both enjoyable and educational. As well as pen and paper work there will also be some computer-based learning and usually a short educational game to finish.
I tailor each lesson to the individual’s needs providing a detailed lesson plan which the child takes home along with the work from the lesson. For this reason I recommend the child works on lined paper keeping everything in an A4 ring binder. The child also needs to bring pencil/pen and ruler.
Lesson Prices...
Lessons cost £30 an hour and take place in the students own home. I can also offer half hour and/or an hour and a half lessons, and can sometimes tutor two children at the same time depending on their requirements. The first couple of lessons can be paid for individually and thereafter payments are made in half-termly blocks. If you know of holidays or appointments that clash with our agreed time, we take these off the bill. Then, once the invoice is paid, I’m afraid no refunds will be given for missed lessons.
